吴学平博士于1995年从比利时鲁汶大学获得应用经济学（金融领域）博士学位后加入香港城市大学。他一直在教授财务管理、公司财务、投资和国际财务管理。他还一直在指导哲学硕士和博士生。他的研究兴趣包括理论和实证，涵盖公司融资、资产定价和资本市场以及国际金融。他曾在《商业杂志》、《JFQA》、《金融评论》、《银行与金融杂志》、“公司金融杂志”、“国际货币与金融杂志”和“衍生品研究评论”等高质量学术期刊上发表文章。他曾获得多个最佳论文奖，包括1999年WWFA企业融资最佳论文奖。作为业余爱好，他喜欢徒步旅行、游泳和练习太极拳，自1996年以来，他多次在城大年度水上运动会上获得50人/100米蛙泳冠军。
