Overview

The Master of Event Management provides a significant overview of the events industry and is designed to develop high-level professional skills and knowledge sufficient to equip students for management positions in the broad and multifaceted event industry. With this in mind, the program includes subjects that seek to develop an understanding of event creation, planning, delivery, marketing and evaluation processes and practices for various forms of events in both the Australian and international contexts.

The course is designed to expose students to best practice, current issues, and emerging trends in event management. Industry experts are engaged throughout course and assessment design and subject delivery to ensure the integration of real-world practice against cutting edge theory. Research-inspired course content is delivered by world-leading academics and industry partners.

The course strongly focuses on professional practice, including two innovative capstone subjects – Industry Research Project or Internship Experience – which allow students to work on or with contemporary industry issues and opportunities.

Course aims

The course aims to produce graduates with professional competence in the specialist area of event management. In addition, high-level general management competencies needed to develop or manage complex organisations involved in the production of public, corporate or other event types are developed.

The course provides theories, models and practical case studies in order to understand the dynamic and complex nature of the events industry.

Career options

Graduates of this program can pursue careers in such areas as festival management, conference and meeting management, sport event management, venue management, exhibition management, event marketing and sponsorship, corporate event management, event risk management, event theming and design.

1.1Apply critical thinking and analytical skills to develop creative strategies that respond to Indigenous and non-Indigenous community/ business needs and emerging challenges within an events context

2.1Communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively with a diverse range of event stakeholders

2.2Manage complex stakeholder relationships and work effectively in teams to deliver agreed project outcomes in a timely manner

3.1Evaluate and apply principles of law, ethics, sustainability and Indigenous values within event management practices

4.1Integrate advanced knowledge of complex event management concepts and technical skills to lead professional practices within a dynamic and complex event environment
