This 60 week course is structure over two consecutive acaemic years each of 30 weeks in its ‘extene full-time moe’. MA Architecture: Cities an Innovation is creit rate at 180 creits, an comprises two units. Unit One (60 creits) lasts 20 weeks. Unit Two (120 creits) runs for 10 weeks in the first year an 30 weeks in the secon year
Both units must be passe in orer to achieve the MA, but the classification of your MA awar erives from your mark for Unit Two only
You are expecte to commit 30 hours per week to your stuies, within which your taught input will normally be scheule over three ays. The course has been esigne in this way to enable you to pursue your stuies whilst also unertaking part-time employment, internships or caring responsibilities.
Unit 1: Methoologies for Architectural Engagement (60 Creits)
Unit 1 consists of a series of projects intene to allow you to experiment with multiisciplinary approaches, as a means to evelop your own esign process, an also to test methoologies which can engage the public in architecture an spatial practice: approaches that expan an challenge the conventional role of the architect. These are teste an refine through esign propositions. Through this process you are introuce to a variety of research methos an issues relevant to the iscipline, which are then irectly implemente in the creation/realisation of esign work. While eveloping work for Unit 1 you will be researching an securing an inustry placement to be unertaken in Unit 2.
Unit 2: Design Research in Architectural Practice (60 creits)
The unit begins with your Inustry Placement. Working with your avisor you will engage with your chosen practice in orer to analyse the ways in which the nature of the practice informs their projects, as well as simultaneously researching an eveloping potential opportunities for your own self-irecte esign project. Following your placement, you will begin on your Major Project. You will efine your own brief, base on research an analysis of a chosen site, an evelop a schematic esign proposal which will be resolve in Unit 4.
Unit 3: Innovating in Architectural Practice (60 Creits)
This unit is integrally linke to Unit 2. In this Unit you will continue to work on your Major Project, resolving it as an architectural proposal an, if appropriate implementing aspects of this proposal on site an/or with collaborators an partners.

Working with paying clients on live briefs will give you valuable commercial experience which may mean your work being taken forwar for prouction or, if so esire, in the purchase of your intellectual property. Applicants shoul have an Upper First Class (2.1) Honours Degree in architecture (or equivalent), an normally at least one year of relevant professional experience.
