哈利波特分了四个学院，饥饿游戏把国家划分为12个行政区，而分歧者把人分为智慧﹙eruite﹚，无畏﹙auntless﹚，无私﹙abnegation﹚，诚实﹙canor），和平﹙amity﹚ ，各自独立而治，但会受制于一个中央权威机构。
在英国也有这么一小撮大学，迄今还奉行着collegiate system（学院制）。
学院制大学的说法是 collegiate university，以及feeral university or affiliating university，也就是说如伦敦大学这类联邦制大学，也是属于学院制大学中的一类。

除了伦敦大学这类联邦制大学外，英国其他比较典型的学院制大学有牛津剑桥oxfor university 和 cambrige university，杜伦﹙university of uram﹚，约克﹙university of york﹚，兰卡斯特﹙lancaster university﹚这些学院制大学和其他大学的区别在于，当你入读business school的时候，你不仅仅只是在business school,你还会有一个college，这个college会跟着你走一辈子，将会是你一生的标签。
关于筛选，学校大多会考虑学生申请时的个人意愿，学校审核决定你是否适合这个学院，分到一个学院的membership后，这个学院会罩着你所有的生活起居娱乐学习。不同学院之间还会举行体育友谊赛。学院更像是一个小的学术圈，会形成强烈的荣誉感。久而久之，当你们介绍自己时，你们会发现自己更喜欢先告诉别人是哪个学院的而不是学习什么专业。

学院制大学中，有两个其它类大学没有的存在被称为jcr和mcr。
jcr ：junior common room本科生公共休息室
mcr：mile common room研究生和博士生公共休息室
主要供放松身心，和其它同学会面用，而且整学期会举办各种社交活动以便学生结交朋友和享受生活。
