工程造价师在澳大利亚也被称为“建筑经济师”、“工程成本经理”，是建筑行业内的专业咨询师，主要负责工程从投标准备、项目建造到最终完成整个过程中的成本预算和监控。
工程完工后，还会参与税收折旧流程，为算出工程保险而做出重置成本估算，有必要的话，还要参与各方的调解和仲裁工作。
职业发展
工程造价师主要就职在建筑及基建工程领域的公共或私营企业做老板的专业顾问。
他们也时常在在房产建筑的科研领域扮演学者的角色，或者和开发商一起作为项目经理在金融机构工作。
学习内容
作为工科与商科的有机结合，工程造价专业并不像土木工程那样，需要学生学习详细的建筑结构和材料用料原理。
