简言之，Vector Institute是由多伦多大学人工智能学者与教授发起，加拿大政府及多伦多大学支持赞助，以及大量企业共同捐助下成立的一所独立的人工智能研究机构。
Vector Institute正在建设一支AI人才队伍，以提高安大略省公司和实验室的竞争力，并加强安大略省作为AI全球目的地的地位，研究人员在神经网络、概率模型、统计理论、计算生物学、计算机视觉和自然语言处理等多个领域处于深度学习和机器学习的前沿。
研究所的地理位置处在多伦多市中心，毗邻多伦多大学，步行范围内可以到达金融区，为学术合作和企业合作都打下了良好的基础。

研究所不授予学位，但可以为安省部分大学的人工智能相关硕士项目攻读的学生提供实践机会，在实践中获得匹配行业的知识，技能和专业化能力。
