- DO NOT be vague
每篇补充文书都是一个向学校展示你有多喜欢它的绝好机会，同时，也是一个可以继续向学校介绍你自己的窗口。大多数的补充文书都会有字数上的限制，所以你必须要简洁明了、直截了当地说出你的想法，而不是给出一些模棱两可或是不具有代表性的表述。

- DO your research
那怎么做才能避免发生以上的状况呢？做 School Research，而且一定要针对专业学习进行仔细的调查。如果你在申请时选择的是不定专业，你可以先去了解下你可能会感兴趣的院系。另外，别忘了再查看下这所学校是否有和附近的其他学校开设合作课程，或是可以互相选课，这一定可以给你的文书增添更多内容。
以下是一个比较成功的例子：

- DO NOT list out the university programs they have

在这段文书中，申请人没有分享他最感兴趣的乔治城大学的课程是什么，以及他为什么想读这个课程。 申请人完全没有必要重复乔治城大学网站上的内容，招生办公室难道还会不知道自己学校有哪些课程吗？
- DO tell them which university programs you’re intereste in an why
重复网站信息是没有必要的，但是清楚地说明你为何对某个课程感兴趣却是非常必要的。在做完 School Research 并找到你感兴趣的课程后，请一定说一下你对该课程的理解，它的哪一点特别吸引你。如果有其他大学开设类似的课程，那它们之间的区别是什么？为什么你更青睐于这所大学的这个课程？它是不是会提供一些特别的实习或研究机会呢？
我们以一个普林斯顿大学的文书为例：

- DO NOT just talk about how great the university is

- DO talk about how well you’ fit into the stuent boy
展示你感兴趣的学术课程很重要，但同时，分享你对该大学的校园文化、课外活动、学生社区等方面的了解度和契合度也很重要。你还可以聊聊你所知道的校园传统，或是所在城市提供的社会服务，当然你也可以假想一下不上课时你可以做些什么。
