精算师是目前中国最稀缺的人才，各大保险公司对具备专业资格认证的精算师都可谓是趋之若鹜，其诱人之处在于高昂的薪水以及较高的社会地位。

精算师的定义
精算师英文是Actuary，这个词来源于拉丁文，本意为经营。现代社会中，简单来说是一种处理金融风险的商业性职业。大部份的精算师都是在财产保险或人寿保险公司工作，其余的精算师主要在咨询公司(主要的客户是规模较小的保险公司及银行)、养老金投资公司、医疗保险公司及投资公司工作。
举个简单的例子，精算师一般可以运用数学、经济、财政和统计工具帮助保险公司制作新产品，计算与之相关保费和准备金，为保险公司制定投资方针和风险评估。当然，不能简单的将精算专业仅仅圈定在保险和人寿这样一个范围内，随着社会的不断发展，在电信，环保，金融机构和政府部门等行业内对精算师也有 一定程度的需求。
精算师在国内的现状
随着国际保险巨头在中国开拓市场以及国内企业的需要，精算师是几年后保险业最炙手可热的人才，目前，国外的精算师平均年薪达10万美元，国内目前月薪也在1万元以上。四年 后，随着人们对于保险认识的加强，保险行业的兴起必然会需要更多的精算师。
