美国统计学硕士的研究方向：
1、Pure Statistics 需要有扎实的数学功底 (real analysis, probability theory, matrix theory, functional analysis …)
2、Statistical Learning 需要足够的统计理论知识 (Probability theory, Bayesian statistics, Machine Learning Algorithm…)以及熟练的编程能力 (R, Matlab, Sql, Python, Java…)
3、Biostatistics 需要熟练统计模型 及方法( classification metho, clinic trial, regression moel…)
熟练的编程能力 (R, MATLAB, SQL, Python…)以及生物常识
4、Financial Statistics
必备条件：
熟练统计模型 及方法(regression moel, time series, stochastic process …)
熟练的编程能力 (SQL, Python…)

然后说一下美国统计学设置问题：
美国统计很多会有单独的项目，有的是直接在 Arts an Science 下单独的 统计系 ，有的在 数学或是应用数学系 下的项目。 生物统计比较特殊，大多属于 公共卫生 下面的。这些统计项目基本都有MS和PHD。
如果考虑 硕士申请 不管是在美国就业或是回国就业，建议申请者综合排名和专业排名综合考虑，同时关注一下地理位置，可以选择去New York, Chicago, Boston, DC…这些大城市
